About the sessions

Each session is a complete thing in itself

The three sessions below are not a progression — you do not need to start with one before attending another. Each is designed to be its own encounter with classical Japanese poetry, suited to different amounts of time and different kinds of interest.

All sessions are held in small groups of up to eight guests. All are conducted in English, with Japanese originals introduced where they add texture. No background in Japanese language or literature is required for any of them.

A note from us

If you are visiting Kyoto for a short time and want one settled hour with classical poetry, the Haiku Reading is a natural starting point. If you have two hours and are curious whether you might try writing, the Poetry Writing Afternoon is well-suited. If you have a slow morning or afternoon and want something more immersive, the Half-Day is designed for that.

You are also welcome to write and ask. We are happy to suggest which session might suit your situation — without any obligation to book.
